Completed in 1930, Castle Drogo was the last ‘castle’ to be built in England and features one of the earliest modern flat roofs still serviceable in England. A jewel in the National Trust’s crown the unique architecture is still admired by many visitors each year.

The original roof design had no visible upstands, with just monolithic granite for the walls and roof surface. The replacement waterproofing linked to a DPC material and was able to cope with high imposed structural loads. For this reason, and due to compatibility between products, the Bauder Total Roof System together with a high performance bitumen polymer DPC was specified.

An inverted design was adopted to eliminate condensation which had previously occurred on the original uninsulated roof. Bauder was awarded a Bronze at the prestigious Green Apple Awards in the built environment and architectural heritage category for Castle Drogo.
