Oscar Niemeyer has spent the night in hospital suffering from pneumonia.

The 104-year-old Brazilian architect was said to be in a stable condition.

“The patient arrived at the hospital overnight suffering from pneumonia and dehydration,” said a statement signed by Dr Fernando Gjorup at the Samaritano hospital in Sao Paulo.

Gjorup described his condition as “stable but calling for caution.”

Niemeyer, who is probably most famous for designing his national capital, Brasilia, is still working despite suffering ongoing health problems.
