The Valley of Temples, Agrigento, sees contemporary art meet classic art  until 3 October 2010 thanks to the exhibition titled “Contemporary art for the Temple of Zeus”. As many as fifty works of contemporary art are installed amidst the Concordia Temple, Porta Aurea, the 1800s villa of the same name and the Temple of Hercules.
The objective of the exhibition is to raise funds for restoration and anastylosis (that is vertical positioning) of the Telamon of the Temple of Zeus. The works of art donated by artists such as Gregorio Botta, Emilio Greco, Umberto Mastroianni, Toti Scialoja, Aaron Young and others will later be auctioned by Christie’s and proceeds will be used to finance restoration.
