Herta & Paul Amir Building doubles gallery’s exhibition space

A 19,000sq m addition to the Tel Aviv Museum of Art designed by Preston Scott Cohen opens tomorrow(31 Oct.) in Israel.

The Herta & Paul Amir Building doubles the exhibition space of the museum and includes a 700sq m auditorium which will be used for film screenings and music performances.

At the heart of the building is a spiralling, top-lit atrium known as the Lightfall. The building’s five levels twist from floor to floor and feature large, rectangular galleries.

The opening will be marked with a week of celebrations including a concert and an architecture symposium.

Several exhibitions are planned for the opening period including Five Moments: Trajectories in the Architecture of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, examining the historical context of the museum’s buildings.

Ron Huldai, mayor of Tel Aviv, said: “Over the past decade, we have invested $250 million in our cultural and historical institutions in support of Tel Aviv’s leading international role.

"The Herta & Paul Amir Building stands as the symbol of all we have accomplished and all we aspire to achieve."
