Adam Architecture and Ptolemy Dean among Georgian award winners
Christopher Rae-Scott, Inskip & Jenkins and Adam Architecture were among the winners of the 2011 Georgian Group Architectural Awards announced this week.
Christie’s chairman David Linley presented the annual awards, which are designed to recognise exemplary Georgian conservation and restoration projects. The new building in the classical tradition was won by Christopher Rae-Scott for the Shilstone Manor in Modbury, Devon, while Adam Architecture’s George Saumarez Smith won the award for a new building in a Georgian context for the Richard Green Gallery in central London. Ptolemy Dean and Inskip & Jenkins were joint winners in the restoration of a Georgian country house category for their work on Easton Neston in Towcester and Strawberry Hill respectively. Allerdale Borough Council’s restoration work on 15 shop fronts as part of the Cockermouth Shopfront Heritage Scheme was named joint winner in the restoration of a Georgian building in an urban setting category, alongside David Bieda for the restoration of the 1791 shop front on 88 Dean Street in London. Adam Dudley Architects won the prize for reuse of a Georgian building, while the prize for the restoration of a Georgian church was won by Molyneux Architects for its work on the 1720 John James designed St George’s in Hanover Square, London. The restoration of a Georgian garden and landscape was won by The Landscape Agency and Kim Wilkie Associates for their work on Boughton House. Finally a special award was given for work on Dumfries House in Cumnock, Ayrshire. The 2011 Awards received a record 80 entries, of which 19 were shortlisted. |
