Grimshaw and BIG make Chicago Navy Pier shortlist
Teams including Martha Schwartz Partners, HOK and Grimshaw have been shortlisted for the £50 million competition to re-design Chicago’s Navy Pier. Aecom, working with BIG, also made the cut, alongside a team led by Aedas featuring Martha Schwartz Partners and Marks Barfield Architects. Grimshaw is working with a team led by Chicago firm Xavier Vendrell Studio and HOK is part of team led by New York-based Melk. The final team shortlisted is led by James Corner Field Operations – another New York practice. Each team will now draw up design plans and take part in an interview with pier officials. The plans will then be presented as part of a public exhibition in February, before a winner is chosen. The project includes the redesign of public spaces from Gateway Park to East End Park, as well as new lighting, public art and fountains and changes to the pier’s landscaping. |
