Developers vie to build first Olympic park neighbourhood
Developers are lining up to work on the first neighbourhood to be built on the Olympic site. The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) has received expressions of interest from a dozen developers vying to build up to 800 homes. Architects will be appointed by the successful developer to work on Chobham Manor, which aims to provide 70% family housing. Construction is due to start in 2013 with the first homes ready by 2015. Meanwhile, 10 companies have bid to be tenants of the RPS-designed Press and Broadcast Centre. Andrew Altman, chief executive of the OPLC, said: “We have received an extremely strong response to the Press and Broadcast Centre and Chobham Manor opportunities. Such market interest in the current economic climate is testament to the private sector’s confidence in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.” Shortlists for both competitions will be announced in the new year.
