Carmody Groarke to design £10m Windermere Steamboat Museum

Carmody Groarke has won the RIBA competition to design the new Windermere Steamboat Museum on the banks of Lake Windermere. The 2007 Young Architect of the Year Award winner beat 114 expressions of interest from which eight practices were invited to develop designs.

The scheme, budgeted with an overall £10 million project cost, is being undertaken by the Lakeland Arts Trust to rehouse the museum’s nationally significant boat collection.

Also shortlisted were Reiach & Hall, Adam Khan, Witherford Watson Mann, Niall McLaughlin, 6a, Sutherland Hussey and Terry Pawson.
