Michael Graves has been awarded the Richard H Driehaus Prize, which recognises lifetime contributions to architecture and urbanism.

Elizabeth Barlow Rogers has been awarded the Henry Hope Reed Award, which recognises classicism in the contemporary built environment.

Both awards will be presented in ceremonies on March 24. Graves will receive $200,000 in Notre Dame, while Rogers will receive $50,000 in Chicago.

Graves is founding principal of Michael Graves & Associates and is a former Robert Schirmer professor of architecture at Princeton University, where he taught for 39 years. In 1960 he received the Rome Prize, awarded to 15 emerging artists by the American Academy in Rome.

Richard H Dreihaus Prize jury chair Michael Lykoudis said: “Michael Graves has enhanced not just the architecture profession with his talent and scholarship, but everyday life itself through his inspiring attention to beautiful and accessible design.”

Rogers is president of the Foundation for Landscape Studies and served as New York City’s first Central Park administrator where she presided over a restoration project from 1979 to 1996. She is the author of several books on landscape architecture.
