Olympic Stadium goes out to tender
The Olympic Park Legacy Company has launched the re-tendering process to find tenants for Populous’s Olympic Stadium once the games are over. It will become the new national stadium for athletics and will host the 2017 World Athletics Championships as well as other sporting, cultural and commercial events. The Legacy Company, which wants to ensure year-round community access when the stadium re-opens in 2014, plans to appoint the winning bidders in May 2012. West Ham and Tottenham football clubs were previously locked in a battle to occupy the stadium but a protracted legal battle brought this crashing to a halt in October. Andrew Altman, chief executive of the Olympic Park Legacy Company, said: “Having already secured the 2017 World Athletics Championships, now is the time for bidders to come forward to further enhance the stadium’s legacy. “Plans for the Olympic Park are more advanced than in any other host city and we are maintaining that pace by securing operators, tenants and events for all our venues before the games have even started.”
