Serie Architects reveals BMW's Olympic pavilion
Former Yaya winner Serie Architects has unveiled designs for BMW’s pavilion for the 2012 Olympic games. The 800sq m pavilion, with a steel superstructure, will be built on an elevated site above the Waterworks River, which runs between the Olympic Stadium and the Aquatics Centre. Christopher Lee, principal architect at Serie, said: “The design takes the idea of the pavilion in the park – the Victorian bandstand – but instead of one pavilion we envision nine pavilions clustered together to form a family.” The lower level will house visitor exhibits while the top floor will house a series of stand-alone pavilions where BMW’s latest vehicle innovations will be shown. Water from the river will be used to cool the building, and will be returned to the river via a water-curtain feature. Last month Design Council Cabe praised the pavilion, and recommended that legacy organisers consider retaining it for future use at the park.
