Olympic Museum planned for 2012 site
The British Olympic Association (BOA) has announced plans for an Olympic Museum on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The museum will sit alongside the ArcelorMittal Orbit and will include interactive displays to celebrate the 2012 games, as well as memorabilia from previous London Olympics held in in 1908 and 1948. A section on building the games will also feature. Margaret Ford, chair of the Olympic Park Legacy Company, said: “The Olympic Museum will be a wonderful attraction on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, bringing historical, educational and cultural interest for families to enjoy and leaving a lasting association with the London 2012 games. “Legacy plans are more advanced than any previous Olympic host city and an Olympic Museum will be yet another great asset for people to enjoy on the park.” An Ojeu tender seeking an architect for the project is due to be announced later this year, and the BOA is currently working to raise funds from Olympic partners and individual donors for the project.
