Reiach and Hall reveals Glasgow hotel plans
Reiach and Hall has revealed its designs for a hotel and conference centre next to the Scottish National Indoor Sports Arena. Developer PIP3 has submitted plans for a 150-bedroom hotel, 1100sq m of shops, five restaurants, a health centre and 290 parking spaces in the east end of Glasgow. The site lies at the junction between London Road and Springfield Road and is also bounded by the Chris Hoy Velodrome. White ceramic tiles will be used to clad the hotel. Spandrel areas between the windows will be decorated in various colours – cool colours facing east, warm colours facing west. Lyle Christie, director at Reiach and Hall, said: “The vibrant colours of the hotel are an abstraction of Holland’s Tulip fields. The colour palette is informed by the work of the Dutch artist Steven Aalders, who showed some work in our gallery, Sleeper, a few years ago.” Shop fronts will be glazed while the healthcare centre will feature translucent glass bricks. A services building will be clad in galvanised steel gratings. |
