The mayor of Dallas led a weekend of celebrations on Santiago Calatrava’s new bridge which he predicted would revitalise the city’s struggling western surburb. But the £115 million Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge will not open to traffic until the end of the month because rain delayed the completion of some ramps. The cable-stayed bridge is Calatrava’s first vehicle bridge in the US - and the first of a series of bridges he has designed to span the Trinity River. It is a key part of Dallas’s regeneration efforts and the city held elaborate celebrations including a sunrise blessing, a performance by an Aztec dance group and a colourful ribbon run featuring hundreds of scouts. |
