Thirty-one entries to a competition to design the National Eisteddfod of Wales Architecture Pavilion have been whittled down to a four-strong shortlist.

James Lockwood, Coombs and Jobes, Tomos Owen and Mwddrwg, and Rory Harmer and Jerry Tate Architects have all made the cut.

The shortlist will be assessed at a second judging session in April and a winner will be announced in August.

Dan Benham, chairman of Design Circle and the judging panel, said:“Overall we were very impressed by the quality of entries, the widespread approach to the principles of good innovative design and a clear understanding of the distinctiveness of Wales.”
