The British School at Rome has relaunched an annual six-month residency that provides young British architects with experience in Italy.

Applications are now being taken from architects and part II students for the 2012-13 Rome Prize in Architecture. The residency was unavailable last year due to lack of funds, but the school said the prize had been brought back after support from private donors including Robert Adam, Bob Allies and Eric Parry.

The school added that the successful applicant would work closely with students of related disciplines, including painters, sculptors, photographers, historians and archaeologists.
More than 160 architects have held residencies at the school since the prize was launched in 1913.

The school’s architecture programme, curated by Marina Engel, focuses on urbanism and urban design. Participants have included David Adjaye, Jamie Fobert, 6a Architects and Carmody Groarke.

The six-month studio-based residency runs from October 2012 to March 2013. The closing date for applications is May 16.
