Holder Mathias has completed 65 timber cabins in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, for client Forest Holidays.

The project is part of a £60 million investment programme that will see 786 cabins built across the UK.

Sherwood is the fourth site to be completed after projects in the Forest of Dean, Argyll in Scotland and Cropton in the North Yorkshire Moors.

The cabins provide one, two, three and four-bedroom accommodation and are built on stilts over the woodland floor.

Alongside the cabins is a central building which includes a shop, bike hire, children’s play area, a coffee shop and a seating area with views of the surrounding forest.

The cabins are designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes level 5 when used with biomass district heating.

Peter Gamble, managing director of Holder Mathias, says: “The cabin’s open, soaring spaces and full height glazing embrace the forest creating a real woodland experience which is comfortable and warm through thoughtful, sustainable design.

“The design approach is all about creating a memorable guest experience in harmony with a unique woodland environment.”
