Aedas has submitted £34 million plans to transform the centre of Keynsham in Somerset.

If approved by Bath & North East Somerset Council work could start this summer to create 1,800sq m of retail and restaurant space, a new council building, library, community meeting and performance spaces and new streets and areas for markets and events.

The council is behind the regeneration plans which it hopes will help attract private sector investment, creating new job opportunities.

David Bellotti, the council’s cabinet member for community resources, said: “This is a truly dynamic and exciting scheme that will completely transform the town.”

Karle Burford, director of Aedas’s Bristol office, said: “This project represents significant investment within Keynsham and we have worked closely with local residents and stakeholders over the past 12 months to create an exciting new development within the town centre. The building will provide a benchmark for sustainable town centre regeneration and will help encourage wider private sector investment in the town”

The civic centre and retail podium will be built in local blue lias stone, while the offices above will be clad in standing seam brass to reflect the town’s historic involvement in the brass industry.
