Jestico and Whiles has secured planning permission for phases three to five of its Greenwich Millennium Village scheme in south-east London.

Peter Barber Architects and Studio 54 Architecture have also worked on the scheme, which is being built by Countryside Properties and Taylor Wimpey with the Homes and Communities Agency.

Outline permission has been granted for 1,746 mixed-tenure homes, of which 459 have been given detailed permission.

The homes are a mix of townhouses and apartments in buildings between three and five storeys high. Traditional street patterns with narrower mews have been used to complement the design of earlier phases.

Heinz Richardson, director of Jestico and Whiles, said:  “Our aim is to encourage the development of a real community through our design. Urban squares within the network of streets will offer places for children to play and for social events to take place.”

The project has received the backing of Design Council Cabe, the Greater London Authority and the Port of London Authority.

The original masterplan and some of the buildings in earlier phases were designed by Ralph Erskine in the 1990s.
