Hopkins Architects' Macmillan cancer centre opens
A new Macmillan cancer care centre by Hopkins has opened at University College Hospital in London this week. The £10 million centre, which has seen patients asked for their contributions to the design, will focus on aspects of their outpatient care. Macmillan will support 100 patients a day with a range of issues from financial problems to help getting back to work. The centre on Huntley Street has been built opposite the University College London Cancer Institute and will see patients from the centre take part in clinical trials at the UCL site. Hopkins’ design, which includes a green roof and photovoltaic panels, is aimed at cutting carbon emissions by a third and has already met revised NHS environmental targets eight years ahead of schedule. The centre includes a dedicated floor for the Teenage Cancer Trust unit that was designed by AHMM. |
