Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has drawn up designs for a 49-storey tower being planned for Canadian city Vancouver.

The Danish practice has been asked by local property developer Westbank to come up with a mixed-use scheme comprising 600 flats as well as retail and commercial units.

Work on the tower is due to start next year and when completed three years later is will be the west coast city’s fourth tallest building.

Buro Happold is also working on the tower which has been named after the road it stands on – Howe & Beach. BIG’s founding partner Bjarke Ingels said the design has taken inspiration from the Flatiron Building in New York.
