Woods Bagot has bagged a raft of airport contracts with new jobs stretching from Los Angeles to China and down to Australia.

The largest deal is a scheme for China Southern Airlines in Guangzhou which will involve masterplanning a so-called airport city – a 400ha mixed-use scheme including retail and residential that will be built around the airport. Also working on the deal is US landscape firm Hargreaves Associates.

London-based Nik Karalis has flown out to Woods Bagot’s office in Beijing to head up the design team working on the scheme which is being built next to the Liuxi river.

The firm beat Zaha Hadid Architects to the deal as well as the in-house archiecture team at Aeroports de Paris, the authority that owns and manages the airports and airfields in and around the French capital.

Elsewhere, the company has bagged three deals at airports in Australia – to extend piers at Sydney, build new departure lounges at Perth and a terminal extension at Adelaide.

It has also picked up a job at JFK airport in New York, where it will work on new duty free retail for World Duty Free, and new business lounges at Los Angeles and Hong Kong airports.
