Getting the correct stone type and grade of stone (in some cases with similar veining), is a very important factor. Not all fireplace fabricators use the same suppliers for their stone and therefore, matching stone for stone can be quite a difficult task - it may also be the case that the supplier, who supplied you with your original fireplace, is no longer trading and so getting an exact match for your stone can be hard for most.

A quality supplier and fabricator should have little problem meeting your requirements as normally they deal with these kinds of problems regularly and have the kind of supplier relationships that ensure an almost perfect match.

Before you buy such a fireplace, my advice is to shop around a little - see what other people have said about your local suppliers and if they cannot help, then look further afield.

Naturally, alterations are certain to cost extra, but if they give you the limestone fireplace you want, then it can be more than worth while.
