What Is Clear Quartz?

Quartz is the second most common mineral making up the earth's crust (after feldspar), and may take on different colours if other substances are present. Also known as rock crystal or pure quartz, clear quartz is, as the name suggests, a transparent or translucent variant of silica (SiO2). Not all specimens are perfectly clear - in fact, most have some areas of translucency, bubbles, inclusions etc. These do not negatively affect the power of the crystal, however.

Clear quartz is renowned for its healing and metaphysical properties, and is sometimes referred to as the 'master healer'. It has a long history of use, and was believed by the Greeks to be ice in a deeply frozen state (in fact the term 'crystal' comes from the Greek krustallos, meaning 'ice').
