Most homeowners, who has ever tackled a kitchen remodeling job, understands just how quickly the costs of the remodel can get out of control. In order to get the kitchen of your dreams without spending top dollar, it is important to plan ahead, and to watch out for those things that can quickly drain your hard earned savings.
Costs of the typical kitchen remodeling can be broken down into a number of different areas, including countertops, cabinetry and appliances. Here at EonStone we all about Counter Tops (Natural Stone). Since counter tops (stone) represent one of the biggest costs for most kitchen remodeling jobs, here are some money saving tips:
$ Less expensive materials. Look carefully at the material you choose, since the material will no doubt represent the largest cost. There are a number of less expensive materials that look and perform just as well as the most expensive materials on the market. I have seen this over and over, a customer chooses the stone, it arrives at our fabrication facility, and what you know, we had very similar stone in the yard. So, talk to your fabricator (contractor) about available options.
$ Remnants, what are remnants? Remnants are the smaller, remaining pieces of stone from a previous job. They are usually sold at a low discounted price. Some fabricators won’t even charge for remnants, the only cost will be labor and installation. Remnants are perfect pieces for fireplace surrounds, vanity tops, table tops, thresholds, or any smaller project you have in mind.
$ Single stone slab! Very often fabricators (contractors), buy their stone in bundles of ten or more slabs, doing so they get better price. And just as often, they end up with one single slab or half a slab. These single slabs are hard to sell, because they are different from other stone slabs. But that single slab could be perfect for your small bathroom or countertop! Sometimes the single slab is similar to the stone you originally wanted. It may look different when its side by side, but if it’s in different room, the difference is insignificant. Or, maybe having different stone in bathroom is the effect you looking for! It is important that you ask your fabricator, about single slab. When asking your fabricator about single slabs, more often than not, they will give you discount on that stone slab.
$ Counter Top Edges. Edging and Profiles add a wonderful dimension to stone tops and amplifies their natural beauty. They could range in additional costs per lineal foot, depending upon which edge profile is selected. If you are on tight budget, you may choose simpler more common edging for your countertops. Some edges can be very complicated and require a lot more labor to manufacture. Times when you might choose a simpler, cheaper edging would be when remodeling your house before selling it. Granite Countertops will add value to your house, but what edging you choose for your countertops won’t make difference, or very little.
$ Granite tiles are an excellent alternative to solid Granite countertops. Granite tiles can be laid almost edge to edge, providing the look and feel of a solid Granite countertop, at a fraction of the cost of solid slab, and quite within the capability of most do-it-yourself.
$ Shop around. Be sure to shop around as much as possible. The prices for the same countertop materials can vary widely from source to source. Spend time selecting your fabricator, yes this is a money saving tip. If the countertop fabrication and installation is not done properly, it will cost you a lot more money in a long run. So make sure your fabricator (contractor) is with experience and good reputation.
$ This could be a money saving tip! You already read about Remnants. Well here is another tip. After counter top fabrication, there always will be some small pieces left over from the natural stone slab you picked for your counter tops. Ask your fabricator if you can have couple pieces. There may be times when you will need them. For example: maybe one day you will get a stain or scratch on your counter top. Stain or scratch can be very hard to remove, and a lot of times you will have to use chemical and buffing (polishing) in order to get them out. These remnants could serve you as practicing peace's.
