Kitchen Back Splash can be an important focal point in a room. There are so many different types and styles of back splash. that it makes it a great design tool when customizing your kitchen countertops.

Kitchen backsplash ideas are endless. A simple, elegant backsplash design will be most pleasing, so good planning is important. Have a clear picture in your mind what the finished product should look like and have fun!

Back Splash is usually made from the same natural stone used for the counter tops, but it can also be ceramic, travertine tile, or some other material. It may be attached to the counter or to the wall, but in either case the seam between the counter and the back splash will be sealed with silicone (caulk).

There are no rules on how long, what material and height the backsplashes should be. You decide that.

How ever, most fabricators will often offer you either 4" or 6" for back splash height, although they're can be made higher, if the customer desires.  Tall back splashes are sometimes used behind the kitchen range or sink as a protective barrier, shielding the wall's surface against the splatter of day-to-day cooking.

A tip, wrapping the back splash around the entire kitchen or bathroom, will give a sense of visual continuity, which could help a small space to look larger. I personally wouldn't recommend the standard 4" backsplash, because it adds another horizontal line to a room. Also, the wall has to be finished off with paint or wallpaper, which isn't very durable and easy to do.

Tips when designing Countertop Back Splash:

Install the countertop first to ensure a watertight seal and clean seam where the counter and splash meet.
Bullnose all exposed edges on the wall tiles, niches, and ledges.
Install low voltage lighting with dimmer switches to accent your designs and highlight focal points.
Seal all stone surfaces with a penetrating sealer to ensure ease of maintenance.
Allow plenty of room in your niches and on your ledges to be able to put them to use.
Because a backsplash bridges the counter, vanity and cabinets, choose a material and color that work with those elements.
Because the splash comprises somewhat of a limited area, it becomes viable to add that extra punch to your kitchen design for a reasonably small investment.
