About Granite, it is quite clear how it got created in the earth, and it is fairly easy to identify Granite among other Natural Stones.

Limestone, Travertine and Marble are different Natural Stones, but sometimes it can be hard to tell them apart.

So, how Limestone is different? And how Limestone was created in earth?

Limestone is a sedimentary rock formed closer to the earth's surface often captures fossilized plant, animal life skeletons and shells, layered and formed from the of sea creatures that lived in vast, millions of years ago.

When Limestone gets even more squashed, or "changes its structure" it can turn into travertine or marble.

Limestone dissolves in rainwater more easily than other rocks. Rainwater picks up a small amount of carbon dioxide during its passage through the air, and that turns it into a very weak acid. Calcite is vulnerable to acid. That explains why underground caverns tend to form in limestone country, and why limestone buildings suffer from acid rainfall.

Limestone quarries are well known, proven quarries, located, in France, Jerusalem the Middle East, Italy and Spain. Usually Limestone's are lighter in color. Limestone colors are soft and earthy, and they range from the creamy beiges to deep browns, reds and blacks. Think of white sandy beaches, falling rainwater, soft green leaves of budding trees in the spring soft, sensuous colors.

Limestone varies greatly in hardness, density, and porosity from stone to stone. Some Limestone's are very soft and should not be cut on. Other Limestone's are very dense and hard and can be finished to a polished or a glossy shiny surface. Softer stones cannot be polished to this high gloss finish.

Limestone is popular building stone because it is widely available and easy to work with. Like Marble and Granite, quality Limestone is used in a wide range of interior and exterior building applications, including floor tiles, counter tops, fireplaces, columns, balustrades, steps, pool decks, stair treads, custom trim, and exterior wall cladding. Hard Limestone will take a high gloss polished finish, but it is traditionally honed (matte) or antiqued for floors. For walls material can be honed, patina, bus hammered, chiseled, split faced and all customized to your desire.

Fueled by the desire for something new, people are becoming enamored with Limestone's European essence and historic feel. There is a desire to add more character and depth to the personality, while enhancing the comforting ambiance that makes the place we live, a home. Even though Limestone may require occasional sealing and more frequent dusting to prevent scratching, LimeStone is a beautiful and durable Natural Stone. It will last your lifetime.

Use great care when choosing LimeStone. Think of your lifestyle. Think of how you want the stone to look in 5 years from today. The same as the day it was installed? Or, do you prefer the comfortable, aged, lived in look.... Limestone will show a patina over time. But, this is just part of the charm of Limestone.
