Many people have seen poor granite tile installations that were uneven or crooked or both. These types of mistakes are caused by improperly cutting the granite tiles. Many builders try to save money by cutting granite tiles with cheap equipment. The best and only truly correct way to cut tiles made from a masonry as hard as granite is by using a diamond bladed wet saw. This type of saw will keep the tile cutting procedure safe and simple

1
Lay out the tiles in the way in which you will install them. Look to see where opening cuts need to be made to accommodate walls, trim, and other items. Turn over the tiles to be cut so that the backs are facing you.

2
Measure the openings that need to be made and mark them onto the backs of the appropriate tiles with a pencil. Pick up all of the tiles and take the ones to be cut outside. Put on safety glasses and cut-resistant gloves and ensure that the saw has a plentiful supply of water.

3
Position the tile on the platform of the saw so that the blade is aligned with the first cut to be made but is not yet touching the tile. Turn on the saw and allow it to go through a couple of rotations to become lubricated with water. Gently push the tile against the blade and make your cut; guide the tile from the farthest side, not the top.

4
Reposition the tile and make the other two cuts to create your opening. Use tile snips to make any difficult, small interior cuts. Finishing cutting all of your tiles as needed and dry the finished tiles with a soft cloth.
