Granite countertops are being used more frequently today in kitchen designs than ever before. The counter attaches to the tops of cabinets with a plywood support beneath it. When you install a dishwasher in your kitchen, as well, it should be well connected to either the cabinets on either side, or the counter. Failure to connect the dishwasher securely could lead to shaking or vibrating of the appliance that could damage its surroundings. If you have frameless cabinets in your kitchen, you will need to attach your dishwasher to the granite counter's plywood support.
1
Measure the opening the dishwasher will enter. While most dishwashers are 24 inches wide, there is some variance, so be sure to get a properly fitting dishwasher that leaves little to no room on either side. The height will be adjustable once the dishwasher is in place.
2
Hook up the plumbing to the dishwasher before placing the dishwasher in its compartment. Once the dishwasher is secured to the counter, you will be unable to connect the hoses or drain.
3
Slide the dishwasher into the opening, between the cabinets and beneath the granite countertop. Adjust the height of the dishwasher at its base by twisting the adjustable feet up or down as needed with a wrench until the mounting brackets on the top of the dishwasher are level with the bottom of the countertop's support.
4
Use a variable speed drill to screw the dishwasher's brackets into the plywood that supports the granite countertop. Take care not to screw into the stone, as this could crack the granite.
