Travertine is a natural stone that is commonly made into tiles and used in bathrooms and on kitchen floors. Like marble and limestone, travertine has a delicate chemical composition and special care must be taken when cleaning these tiles. Some cleaners and soaps can scratch and damage your travertine tile. Travertine tiles are not immune to mold growth, and it is common for mold to grow on travertine tiles in the bathroom. When mold forms on your travertine, remove the mold to avoid damage to the tiles.

1
Remove as much of the mold with the use of a sponge and warm water.

2
Mix 1/2 cup of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide with 1 gallon of water.

3
Scrub the mold gently with a sponge or soft cloth saturated in the peroxide-water mixture. Allow the mixture to sit for at least 30 seconds.

4
Rinse the tile with cool water to remove the hydrogen peroxide mixture.

5
Apply a natural stone cleaner made specifically for travertine tile. Follow all directions and warnings that are printed on the label.
