Travertine tile creates an Old World feel to your bathroom. You can decorate both the floors and wall of your shower with travertine, however, it is a porous stone and doesn't clean like other types of tile. Test your travertine tile to see if it is polished and whether or not it needs sealing prior to deciding how to clean it.

Lemon juice is acidicTest your travertine tile in your shower to see if it is sealed. Pick a portion of the tile that is not readily visible for your test. Pour or dab a dime of lemon juice or vegetable oil onto the travertine tile. Keep track of the time and note how long it takes for the stone to darken. Apply Stone Care Pro or SenGuard sealer if the stone darkens within 5 to 10 minutes. Stone that does not darken does not need sealing.

2
Decorative trays protect your travertine tile.Always put toiletry products on a decorative tray and never directly on the travertine tile. They can leave unwanted chemicals or acidic ingredients that can etch or dull your travertine tile.

3
Place bath soaps in a protective dish.Use mild non-acidic soap no more than three to four times a year, as this will dull the shine of your travertine tile in your shower.

4
Use a non-abrasive sponge for cleaningUse hot water combined with Stone Plus Cleaner and a soft sponge to clean the surface of your tile on a daily basis to prevent mildew or residue buildup of any toiletry products used in the shower. The best time to clean your shower is immediately after the last shower of the day.

5
Use a clean cotton cloth or chamoisDry the tile using a clean cotton cloth or chamois after you have thoroughly sponged it down; this will help to prevent any streaking or spotting.
