Travertine, a sedimentary rock often used as flooring material, can also be used for countertops, showers and decoration. The porous nature of travertine requires a heavy sealant before it is suitable for use. Polished travertine is sealed, adding a lovely, earthy look to a room. When you install polished travertine on your floors, you will need to clean and maintain them properly with an easy-to-follow stone care regime.

1
Clear away any dust and dirt with a broom. All of the tangible debris must be completely gone before you can restore your floors.

2
Run a damp mop over the travertine to clean away surface dirt.

3
Water down a stone cleaner concentrate to the dilution indicated by the cleaner's manufacturer.

4
Mop the entire surface with the stone cleaning dilution. Let the travertine dry thoroughly.

5
Prepare a solution of a stone revitalizing concentrate and water. The exact ratio of concentrate to water should be followed according the specific product's directions.

6
Sponge the stone revitalizing solution over the travertine. Apply the revitalizer starting in the furthest corner from the exit and work your way toward the door. Let the solution dry before walking on the floors.
