Travertine is a natural stone used in homes for flooring, countertops, backsplashes and bathtub enclosures. The travertine requires very little maintenance, aside from a regular cleaning and polishing routine. The travertine is typically protected with a light gloss layer that not only protects the underlying travertine from stain absorption, but also gives the stone a finished, polished look. Cleaning and polishing travertine is an easy procedure.

1
Pour 2 cups of water and 1 tsp. dish detergent into a spray bottle. Twist the cap on the bottle and shake to mix the soap and water.

2
Spray the mixture onto the travertine's surface and wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Using a damp cloth will not only clean, but wipe away any soap residue left behind from the spray.

3
Dry the travertine with a clean, dry cloth. Buff vigorously in tiny, circular movements. Buffing the surface dry will remove any excess water and restore shine to the travertine surface.
