Cleaning the grout in limestone tile can be an easy process, as the hardest part of the process is finding a cleaning agent that will safely clean the grout without harming the limestone tile. There are a few retail cleaning products designed for cleaning grout surfaces, but these can be costly items, forcing us to find inexpensive homemade alternatives.

1
Mix a gallon of warm water with 1/4 cup liquid dish detergent (roughly four squirts) in a bucket. Stir to form soap suds. For wall tile, mix a spray bottle solution of 2 cups water and one squirt liquid dish detergent.

2
For floors, dip a mop in the solution, then twist to remove any excess water. Rub the mop over the entire floor, both grout and tile. Concentrate on areas of grout with buildup or residue, using a bit more pressure when cleaning. Most times this will be all that is required to clean the grout properly.

3
For wall tile, spray the solution onto walls and wipe clean with a damp sponge.

4
For built up stains that are not easily removed by the dish detergent mixture, sprinkle baking soda onto the areas of grout with the heavy buildup. Do this while the area is still wet from the cleaning, as the baking soda will adhere more easily to a damp surface.

5
Use a soft bristled brush such as an old toothbrush to scrub the baking soda into the tile. Baking soda is a non-abrasive cleaning agent that will not harm either the grout or tile, making for the perfect scrubbing cleaner.

6
Wipe clean with damp cloth to remove any remaining residue or baking soda, then let air dry.
