An expensive tile that can lend sophistication to your home, marble is easily damaged. Heavy objects, active pets, children and general neglect can leave scratches, wear patterns and a dull finish on the precious marble. Because you may have to sand your marble floor several times, refinishing it can require a lot of physical labor and time. But it will almost certainly cost less than hiring a cleaning service.

1
Vacuum and sweep the floor. Make sure all of the dust, debris and dirt is off the floor.

2
Tape cardboard over the baseboards to protect them from overspray.

3
Scrub the floor of all wax and coating. Apply a refinishing powder to the surface and add water to the floor.

4
Adjust the speed controller on the underside of the sander's handle to about 175 rpm. Sand the wet marble, making sure it remains wet. Continue until you achieve the desired finish.

5
Rinse the marble and use a wet vacuum to remove all of the debris. Clean the sander with water.
