Semi-precious stones are not only beautiful, but historically serve a purpose for the wearer. Myths and legends about the effects of these gems still linger today.

Opals
Opals represent the October birthstone. They can be used to invoke visions and dreams or to protect the wearer against disease. Fire opals release creativity.

Peridot
Queen of Egypt Cleopatra favored peridot. These gems stimulate the mind. Legend states that they also can be used to drive away evil spirits.

Topaz
 
Yellow topaz represents the November birthstone, although they exist in colors such as red, orange and blue. Russian Czarinas preferred red topaz in their jewelry. Varied powers have been attributed to the topaz including invisibility, improved vision and preventing death.

Turquoise
Turquoise represents the December birthstone. Although associated with the color bearing its name, the gems' color can vary from greens to blues. Used by Native American shamans, the stone is said to expand the mind and increase understanding.
