The name of the area was initially Tibur so the name of the stone quarried from the site was named lapis tiburtinus which stands for "stone of Tibur." After several centuries, the language has changed because of the invasion of several armies and the name was changed to Travertine which is what we know at present. Any color scheme can have a good match with travertine tiles since its color is based on earth tones. The basic color of the tile is brown and tan but, because of the added minerals, any colors under the rainbow can be found in the tile.
