Marble floors make a grand statement in a home. Marble counter tops, marble floors and marble topped furniture are all surfaces that are prone to scratching and becoming dull. Many times the scratches and dulling in marble will occur because of the cleaning products that were used on the surface or the marble may not have been sealed. It is fairly easy to remove scratches and dullness from marble floors, it just takes a bit of muscle.
1
Wet the entire marble surface with plain water. When working on large marble floors, work in manageable sections.
2
Generously sprinkle tin oxide over the entire wet area. Tin oxide can be purchased at home improvement stores or hardware stores. Tin oxide is the active ingredient found in marble polishing kits. Marble polishing kits are expensive and not necessary.
3
Use a soft rag such as flannel or cotton. Fold the rag so it is very thick. For a large area use an electric buffer. An electric buffer can be rented.
4
Rub the scratched or dulled area of the marble floor very vigorously in a circular motion until the scratches or dullness has been removed. This takes a good amount of rubbing. If you are using an electric buffer, buff the area until the desired results are achieved.
5
Use a wet rag to wipe down the surface, follow with a soft, dry cloth.
6
Apply a marble flooring sealer.
